DIY Camo Headboard

DIY Camo Headboard. OneBlessedChicky.com

A few weeks ago my husband decided that he wanted to make a headboard for the queen sized bed in our guest bedroom. He asked me if I had any ideas for it. Neither one of us had done anything like this before, so of course, I pointed him towards Pinterest. If you've ever read my blog before, you know I'm a Pinterest junkie (Yes, I admit it).

In his search for a DIY headboard, hubby came across some really great ideas. He's been fascinated with the old barn wood theme lately, so that's where he began his search. That search led him to some really neat DIY headboard pins.

In the end, he took several of the pins he found and put them together to create this fabulous camouflage headboard. I don't have a complete tutorial as of this right now, but I did take a few photos along the way. (And I even helped cut the RealTree camo material). So, here you go, in picture form... the DIY Camo Headboard for queen sized bed.

I'm sure if anyone is interested enough, I can probably get my hubby to give more details about how he made this headboard. I think it turned out really nice. Now, the only left in the guest room is to put out some deer and wildlife decor.

Fabulous Ideas For A Romantic Valentine's Day

Ideas for a Romantic Valentine's Day. OneBlessedChicky.com

My husband and I will be celebrating 29 years of marriage in July of this year, and over the years, it seems that Valentine's Day has become "just another day". It's not that we don't love each other, as a matter of fact, our love has grown stronger over the years. It feels like we're in the 29th year of our honeymoon :)

We just have never made a big deal about Valentine's Day. Sure, we might go out to eat.... but most likely, stay at home and watch a movie, cuddled on the couch (that's not so bad, is it?). But, this year, I want something different for Valentine's Day. And of course, I turned to Pinterest for help.

There is no shortage of Valentine's Day ideas on Pinterest, and I want to share with you some of my favorites. You may have some different ones of your own, and I would LOVE to hear them in the comments section. But here are my top six favorites (in no particular order):

  1. Make a memory jar. Take simple slips of paper and write a favorite memory on each one. Be specific, and try to record as much about the occasion as you can. Tuck them into a jar or wooden box, tied with a bow. (source: NewWoman.IE)
  2. Plan to give your husband a surprise every day from Feb. 1 – the 14th.  It can be a simple note in his lunch, baking his favorite cookies, back massage, washing and massaging his feet, etc. The idea is to do something special for 14 days. (source: TheRomanticVineyard)
  3. Write and play him a song on the piano/guitar. I got this idea from Shannyn over at FrugalBeautiful, only her ideas were for the guy to give the girl. I loved it, but then remembered that I indeed HAD written my husband a song a few years after we got married. So, now, I need to dig through some treasure boxes and see if I can brush the dust off of that song. He would LOVE it ♥
  4. Hop in the car and just drive! The fun comes in the unknown…pick a road or direction you rarely travel and just see where you end up. (source: SouthernGirlRamblings). I loved this one. My husband and I have always loved to take drives through the country. Now that we live in the country, we rarely go for those rides anymore. We may just have to do it!
  5. Give him a rejuvenating body rub, grab those sensual oils and pamper him like he’s the only person that matters. Great idea from Jenn over at Jennsblahblahblog.
  6. Watch the sunrise, or sunset. Depending on your schedules, you might be able to catch a beautiful sunrise instead of the usual sunset. Take pictures together and put them together in a scrapbook later. Bonus: The scrapbook would make a great anniversary gift! (source: ShannonsViewFromHere)
Now, the question is, which one of these fabulous ideas will I incorporate into this year's Valentine's Day? Maybe ALL of them. Or just maybe, we'll end up cuddled on the couch watching a romantic movie ;)

Either way, I will be celebrating this day of love with the man that God has blessed me with, the man I love with all my heart ♥ And THAT is what will make Valentine's Day special to me.

What will YOU be doing on Valentine's Day this year?

As always, go with God, and God will go with you!

What's Inside of YOU?

Matthew 25:23 "His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!' (NIV)

In the parable of the talents, the master was only pleased with those who took the talents he gave them, and multiplied them (or used them for His glory). He called them "good and faithful servants".

One evening, when our daughter Tifanee was almost a year old, I was watching Christian Television and Pastor Kenny Foreman was a guest on that evening's program. He was talking about the cross of Calvary and about Jesus mending broken hearts. He said, “No matter what you’re going through, no matter where you've been or what you've you done, Jesus loves you and cares for you.”

He spoke with such love and compassion and I could feel the presence of the Lord. He painted a portrait of Calvary with his words, one like I had never heard up to that point in my life. And then he looked at the camera with tears in his eyes, and made THIS statement, “If you think that no one cares about you or that no one loves you, look to Calvary, there’s your proof!”. That powerful statement made a lasting impact on my life. When I heard Pastor Foreman speak those words, something on the inside of me jumped and I thought I was going to burst.

I knew exactly what he was talking about. I had heard all my life that Jesus died on the cross for my sins. I've sang about it since I was a little girl, “Jesus loves me this I know, for the Bible tells me so…” but the way that man of God spoke about Calvary, ignited something on the inside of me.

“A song,” I thought, “there needs to be a song called, Calvary is Proof!”  I ran and got a piece of paper and a pencil and started writing. The pen seemed to glide swiftly across the paper as I wrote the words with ease. I wasn't a songwriter, at least I hadn't been up until a few weeks prior when I had written my first song (other than little choruses I wrote as a child). Little did I know that the song I wrote weeks before would be the beginning of many more songs to come.

So, there I was, in front of the television, and the words (and music) were flowing freely. It wasn't assigned, not by man anyway, but yet I wrote sincerely and unrestrained. I hadn't even thought about being a songwriter, it just happened! Another verse came.

People need to know that Calvary is proof that Jesus loves them,” I thought, as the pen surged across the paper, “they need to hear how He bled and died on a cruel cross. The answer is at Calvary; the proof is at Calvary!” The chorus came fluently.

That day back in 1987 was very special to me. It took a Pastor on a television broadcast to bring out something in me that God had placed there, possible years before. God enriches our lives with talents and abilities and it’s up to us to utilize them for His glory.

What has God placed inside of you? What hidden talent is waiting to be opened like a precious gift? Don't let your talents be wasted. Don't live your life to the end with these gifts still inside of you, unopened and untouched. It may be by accident, or you may be searching with all of your heart, but however it happens, use these wonderful gifts to the best of your ability, and to HIS glory! May He be pleased with you and call you a "good and faithful" servant.

                  Calvary Is Proof

          1.      I’d be lost in this world without Jesus
Although this world is not my true home
Until the day when He comes to take his waiting Bride away
I’ll think of Calvary, the place He gave his all for me.

Cho.  For it was there where they placed
A crown of thorns on his head
It was there where they pierced his precious side
So if you’re looking for an answer
And, you don’t know where to turn
I’ll know he’ll help you, because Calvary is proof.

          2.      If you think that no one cares when you’re hurting
If you’re traveling down a road that has no end
Let me tell you of a man who died to save you
He really loves you, my friend, and Calvary is proof.

Cheesy Ham And Hashbrown Casserole

Cheesy Ham and Hashbrown Casserole. Easy enough for the kids to help. OneBlessedChicky.com

Have you ever had one of those cravings that you just HAD to satisfy? I had one of "those" today. My craving was for a cheesy hash brown casserole. So, of course, I turned to Pinterest for help. I was not disappointed by the pages of pins for a cheesy hash brown casserole. I WAS disappointed that most of them called for a can of "cream of (whatever)", which I did NOT have.

Still driven by my craving, I continued to browse through the many pins. Finally, I came across a recipe that did NOT call for the above mentioned can (lol). This one, however, only called for a few ingredients, which looked yummy enough, but I wanted more. So, I pinned the recipe, opened it up, and started creating my own version.

The original pin called for bacon. I used ham. I also added a few more ingredients,
and the end result was very pleasing to the taste buds (my husband agrees).

Now, in order to properly make this recipe, you will need 2 little helpers.
One to crack the eggs, and 1 to taste test the cheese.

Wait, I'm getting ahead of myself....lol. First get out all of your ingredients:

Cheesy Ham and Hashbrown Casserole. Easy enough for the kids to help. OneBlessedChicky.com

Ingredients:
1 Can of Pillsbury Crescent Rolls

3 C Shredded Hash Browns

8 Medium Eggs (slightly beaten)

2 C Diced Ham (I used left over ham from a previous ham dinner)

1/2 C Chopped Onions

5 T Butter

1/2 C Sour Cream
1 t Salt
Pepper to taste

Instructions:
Preheat the oven to 350 and grease a 9x13 casserole dish.
Roll out the crescent rolls in the bottom of the casserole dish.

Spread the hashbrowns evenly on top of the crescent roll crust.

While I was preparing this, I had the ham and onions sautéing
in a pan over medium heat (approx 5 min).

Now comes the part where your little helpers come in. My 4 year old granddaughter Maddi loves to help me cook, so I put her to work cracking the eggs. Once in a while my 2 year old grandson Madden wants to help. Today was one of those days. So, I pulled up a bar stool and put him to work stirring some shredded cheese in a small bowl (not part of the recipe....just needed to keep him busy). As you can see, it DID keep him busy (EATING it...lol).

After the eggs are cracked and slightly beaten, pour them evenly on top of the hash browns. Sprinkle the salt & pepper on top of the eggs and spread the ham and onion mixture next. Looking yummy ;)

In a medium microwaveable bowl, melt the butter and cheese (1-2 min).
Add the sour cream and stir until mixed well. Spread over the top of the casserole.

Bake in 350 oven for 40-45 minutes.

Take out and let it sit for about 5 minutes before cutting into it.
